Basic Theory Test (BTT) needs to be passed before you can go for Car(Final Theory Test) and Motorcycle(Riding Theory Test). There is also no expiry date for the validity of BTT and it cost $6.50 per attempt. Thus, you should try to pass it as soon as possible. The cheapest and fastest way to pass BTT is to register for BTT as a private candidate and study the test on your own. There is a free online official BTT handbook by Singapore Traffic Police which will be helpful for private candidate.
Please note that when any learner cancels BTT, the slot will not reappear in the system. This is to prevent anyone from “selling” their earlier BTT slot for financial gain. TP might then accumulate the cancelled slots and release them in a random time (days or weeks later). Thus, there is not much point in camping for BTT slot though you can try if you are desperate enough.
On the other hand, the school route will be longer and more expensive because you need to attend their theory lesson and Mock test before they allow you to take BTT which have waiting time of 1 – 2 months. You can check out the waiting time for BTT here. However, you will have access to school learning material like theory classes and Etrial test. In my opinion, doing the Etrial test multiple times should be more than sufficient for you to pass BTT.
For those considering school route, you can check out the CDC brochure here for the content and cost. Lastly, you will need to pass BTT in order to apply for Provisional Driving License(PDL) which will enable you to take practical lesson in the public road for both car and motorcycle.
Pls do try to complete all your theory lessons and tests as soon as possible to prevent any bottlenecking. Both theory and practical lesson can be cleared at the same time. Some learners progress were impeded as they are unable to book their next practical lesson due to not clearing their theory lessons and tests fast enough. Do visit this post to learn more about other CDC practical lessons.
